Being still a novice to paper modeling, I am unsure about the exact purpose of using fixative or hairspray. I understand the purpose of its intent, which is to protect the model, I think. What concerns me is how does it react to paper/card stock and the ink that is on the paper.

1. Does the paper/card stock pucker up and winkle then flatten out like tissue coverings on wood models, or does it show zero deformity when applied?

2. How about the ink that is used to print these models? When sprayed ,does the ink run and bleed thru the paper/card stock? I use a HP Deskjet F4440 printer with the recommended ink for this printer.

3. If I use hairspray, should it be an aerosol and not the pump? What brand of hairspray or fixative is recommended?

4. How long as far as time will a models colors last if it is sprayed vs not being sprayed?

Thx

Just mentioned this on the printer thread. Many folks use acrylic sprays to seal the ink. If you apply the spray in many, very light coats, it's not an issue. Krylon is a popular brand in the U.S., but you can use any brand. I hear the Krylon matte gets very grainy though in high humidity areas.

The purpose of using them is to keep the ink from running when water based glues are used. The spray also makes it easier to clean up glue smudges and smears. Just be sure to spray the sheets before cutting.
