Is there an easy way to make heavy lines go away. External fold lines, particularly the wing fold lines are distracting. I know about the FG look and all that. I just don't want my models to look like lithographed toys. I have PS Elements IV, but I'm clueless. Can someone walk me through changing a heavy black fold line into a thin pale gray line, preferably with out getting in to layers and those things.

The simplest way I can think of:

Use the black and white version. Adjust the brightness and contrast all the way up. It should thin out the lines.

Using a color version is a lot harder. It would require using a clone tool on each line to make it go away, then redraw it how you want.

I hate flying surface fold lines on their leading edges and erase them mercilessly everywhere I can do so. I can usually do it quickly on a colored model by selecting a long thin rectangle right next to the line to be erased, the same shape as the line to be erased (a few pixels wider, but not many), then copying it and pasting it on top of the offending line. Because it came from a region of color immediately adjacent the line, the copy blends in most of its length without requiring any further diddling, although sometimes I use a smudging tool with various opacities to smooth over contrasts that are too sharp.

As to thick external lines, there's no need to make them thin; simply cut the part out using the inside of the line.

Hope that helps.

Layers aren't hard to use and simplify things greatly. This was written a long time ago--when elements 2.0 was new--but the techniques still work--only the look of your work window is different. 'splains everything you'd want to know....(I hope)
